William Clarke

Curator, Gallerist and Artist Mentor

English

Fostering a collaborative environment and supporting artists' ambitions and goals has been a highlight of my work, leading to a desire to want to contribute directly to the development of artists' careers. I am committed to nurturing and fostering growth, enhancing opportunities and developing modes of best practice. Through personalised guidance, constructive critique, and a supportive environment, my aim is to empower artists at any stage of their career to fulfil and push the boundaries of their potential.

I initially studied as an artist in Leeds, UK, where I helped set up and run Serf, an artist-led studio and project space which is still operating today. I then went one to study on the MFA Curating course at Goldsmiths, University of London, where I began writing for various art magazines including FRONTRUNNER, YAC, Thisistomorrow, WhiteHot Magazine and Corridor8. During this time I curated independent exhibitions and started working at institutions and commercial galleries in London. From 2020 until the end of 2023 I had been a Director of VITRINE, a renowned commercial art gallery working internationally focused on artistic experimentation and emerging interdisciplinary practices. Since then I have held a senior curatorial position at Glyndebourne.
